Leona is the oldest member of the Happy Zoo Squad, the group of Nikkes entrusted with overseeing the Ark's animals. She's in charge of the most dangerous ones — lions and tigers — and shares a unique bond with a timid lion named Timi. Her personality is bold and spontaneous, a contrast to the careful, protective role she plays around the animals she's grown attached to: "Oh, I've always fed large animals. So, whenever I touch small animals I'm afraid that I'll end up hurting them."

Leona Skills Breakdown

Leona supports shotgun allies by increasing their effective range and follow-up damage, while providing team-wide Crit Rate and Crit Damage.

Leona Skill Break Down

Skill 1: Thunderous Roar (Passive)

  • Activates after 5 normal attacks. Affects all allies: Roar — Critical Rate 2.62%, stacks up to 5 times, lasts 5 sec.
  • Activates after 15 normal attacks. Affects all allies with a Shotgun: Maximum Effective Range 20% for 10 sec.

Leona Skill 1

Leona Skill 1: Thunderous Roar

This is a permanent Crit Rate buff for the whole team once ramped — it takes roughly 4 seconds to trigger and about 20 seconds to hit max stacks. Because Crit Damage is heavily diluted in NIKKE's damage formula, the raw numbers here look better on paper than they perform in practice, but any free Crit Rate is still welcome.

The 15-shot range buff (~12s after reload) increases the effective range of your weapon and deals 30% more damage in the extended range - though, since it's additive and not multiplicative (which means it's being added directly, not multiplied) the real gain would be around 10% in total, and it is mostly useful for shotgun comps. The pellet boost itself doesn't give extra damage; the idea is to complement pellet-focused kits like Privaty: Unkind Maid's, where an increase in the number of pellets leads to a very slight increase in critical hit chances.

Skill 2: Courageous Look (Passive)

  • Activates on entering Full Burst. Affects all allies: Hit Rate 20.28% for 10 sec.
  • Activates on entering Full Burst. Affects the 2 shotgun allies with the highest final ATK: Number of pellets 5 for 10 sec.

Leona Skill 2: Courageous Look

Courageous Look

The team-wide Hit Rate buff helps Rifle units land more core hits and tightens shotgun spread — though since base shotgun hit rate is poor to begin with (Privaty: Unkind Maid excluded, since she has an innate hit rate buff), the practical DPS gain for most shotgun units is small.

Level 4 and Level 7 are the points where the number of pellets increases by +4 and +5, respectively, and it's definitely worth getting beyond the first if Privaty is a main character in your party.

Burst Skill: Lion's Heart (Active — Cooldown 20s)

  • Affects all allies: Critical Damage 34.64% for 10 sec.
  • Activates when Roar is fully stacked. Affects all allies with a Shotgun: Critical Rate 21.32% for 10 sec.

Burst Skill: Lion's Heart

Burst Skill: Lion's Heart

A straightforward Crit Rate/Crit Damage burst. As with Skill 1, the Crit Damage side is diluted by the damage formula, and the Crit Rate portion is locked to shotgun units only — so outside of a shotgun team, this burst is one of the weaker Burst II kits in the game.

Best Build for Leona

Leona's gear priority is straightforward and doesn't require heavy min-maxing unless you're building her as a niche personal damage dealer against Water-weak bosses.

  • Ideal: 1–3x Max Ammo, 4x Elemental Damage (Water), 4x ATK
  • Filler: No strong filler priority — she doesn't need a specialized off-stat
  • Why Max Ammo: it helps her hit the 5-shot and 15-shot skill thresholds more consistently, which is what actually makes her Skill 1 buffs reliable

Overall gear investment priority on Leona should be treated as low unless she's slotted into a Water-boss-specific Solo Raid team, where her personal damage becomes a small but real bonus.

What Harmony Cube Should You Use?

Any Harmony Cube that increases uptime works for Leona — the goal is simply to keep her firing and maintaining her Roar stacks for as long as possible.

  • Bastion Cube: Bastion Cube is your main choice; it makes the shot last longer so you can continue using Roar stacks and the range buff.

  • Resilience Cube — Resilience Cube gives you very nice options too; it helps you reload faster so you can shoot quicker.

If you're unsure which to use, just equip whichever of the two you have leveled higher — Bastion and Resilience perform nearly identically on Leona at equal levels.

Skill Investment Priority

SkillPriorityNotes
Skill 1 (Thunderous Roar)Mid
  • Decent Crit Rate scaling; Crit Damage stat itself is weak in the formula, so don't over-invest
Skill 2 (Courageous Look)Situational
  • Push to Level 4–7 if running with Privaty: Unkind Maid to help her stack pellets; otherwise leave at Level 1
Burst (Lion's Heart)Mid–High
  • Raise to Level 7 if building a dedicated shotgun team; Level 4 is enough otherwise

Best Team Compositions

Good for: Boss Killing / Raid Team

B1

Tove

Tove

  • ATK buffer — burst when her stacks reach 3 for maximum value
B2

Leona

Leona

  • Crit Rate/Crit Damage buffs, shotgun range extension
B3

Privaty: Unkind Maid

Privaty: Unkind Maid

  • Main shotgun DPS, screen wipe
Flex

Modernia

Modernia

  • Extends Full Burst duration, mitigates the team's lack of CDR
Flex

Marciana

Marciana

  • Healing/sustain

This "Extended Full Burst" team leans on Modernia to cover the team's biggest weakness — no dedicated cooldown reduction unit — while keeping the team topped off with Marciana's healing. It's currently one of the strongest ways to field Leona in Solo Raid, particularly against Water-weak bosses.

Strengths & Weaknesses

StrengthsWeaknesses
  • Solid Crit buffs for a dedicated shotgun team as a solo Burst II unit
  • Good synergy with Privaty: Unkind Maid — their kits are practically built for each other
  • Very mediocre outside of shotgun-focused teams
  • Easily replaced if a stronger Burst II unit is released, even within shotgun teams
  • Her optimal team requires heavy investment across multiple units (Tove, Privaty, Modernia, Marciana)

Some Tips When Playing Leona

  • Pair her with Privaty: Unkind Maid whenever possible. Their skills interlock directly — Leona's pellet count buff and Privaty's pellet mechanics are the single best reason to build Leona at all.
  • Don't break your normal-attack rotation. Both of Leona's Skill 1 effects depend on hitting 5 and 15 normal attacks — swapping her out mid-fight resets that progress.
  • Skip her in Arena. As a clip-based shotgun unit, her burst generation is poor and her buffs take too long to ramp up to matter in PvP.
  • Lean on her for Water-weak bosses. Her personal damage and range buff have the most impact in Solo Raid content against Water-weak enemies.
  • Don't force her into a generic buffer slot. If you're not running a shotgun team, better Burst II options exist — Leona's value is almost entirely tied to her specialized comps.

Conclusion

Leona remains exactly what she was designed to be: a specialist, not a generalist. Outside of a dedicated shotgun team, she's a below-average Burst II buffer that's easy to pass over, but inside her ideal comp — alongside Tove, Privaty: Unkind Maid, and either Modernia or Anis: Sparkling Summer — she's still a genuinely strong pick for Solo Raid and Special Interception in the current NIKKE meta.

If you already have Privaty: Unkind Maid or are planning to build a shotgun-focused roster, Leona is worth the investment. If not, she's safe to leave on the bench until your account calls for that specific team. Getting her team pieces ready? Do a NIKKE top-up through LootBar for discounted Gems and fast delivery.
