  • Velina Overview

Velina is a S-Rank Wind Anomaly Agent who is the first Wind character to be introduced to us. She plays similiarly to other Anomaly characters of her Role; however, her Wind Attribute is what makes her stand out from them. Rather than triggering Disorders with other Attributes, the Vortex effect will be triggered instead. In combat, whenever Velina triggers Vortex, a small Condensed Cyclone is summoned, and she gains 1 stack of WIndbite. After accumilating 2 Windbite stacks, Velina can then summon Sweeping Cyclone the next time Vortex is triggered. This attack is a far stronger version of her usual cyclones, having a higher DMG Multiplier that comes with Attribute shred. What's more, Sweeping Cyclone can be infused with other Attributes, dealing the corresponding DMG instead of Wind DMG. When Velina's cyclones dissipate, they'll explode and trigger Abloom. Velina also gains Windbloom from dealing DMG and using her skills; with sufficient Windbloom, holding Basic Attack or Special Attack will make her summon a Sweeping Cyclone and trigger a Quick Assist.

Velina Skill Priority

Below are the best skill priorities for Velina:

SkillPriority
Core Skill Core Skill★★★★★ (Top)
Basic Attack Basic Attack★★★★ (Top)
Chain Attack Chain Attack★★★ (High)
Special Attack Special Attack★★★★ (Top)
Dodge Dodge★ (Low)
Assist Assist★ (Low)

Velina's Core Skill has a significant impact on her Attribute Anomaly and Abloom DMG, making it the most prioritised skill when upgrading her. Keep in mind that Velina's main source of damage comes from her Anomaly procs, which don't scale on skill levels, so general skill upgrades don't have as much impact. That shouldn't stop you from levelling up her skills, however, as their contribution is still noticeable in the long run. Her Special Attack and Basic Attack should be the first skills you upgrade after finishing her Core Skill, they're the most frequently used skills and their DMG multiplier is pretty solid. Sitting below those two is her Chain Attack, it's a hard-hitting skill, but its scarce usage limits the value you can get from it. Finally, her Dodge and Assist skills should only be upgraded once you've properly developed her other skills, as their contribution is negligible.

Velina Best W-Engines

As an Anomaly character, Velina wants as much Anomaly Mastery, Anomaly Proficiency and ATK as possible. However, before getting those stats, you must prioritise Energy Regen, as her Core Skill and Anomaly Buildup potential relies heavily on this stat. Among the vast choices of Anomaly W-Engines, her Signature W-Engine, Joyau Dore, is her strongest pick. We recommend you secure this W-Engine in order to get the most out of Velina.

Velina Best Teams

Velina works best when she's paired with other Anomaly characters, as she's only a Sub-DPS. Doing this also activates her Additional Core Ability which increases her Attribute Anomaly and Abloom DMG. There are exceptions to this rule however, as Velina is anti-synergetic with characters whose kit ties closely to Disorders, such as Miyabi and Yanagi. We don't recommend you pairing her with them.

1. Velina Premium Teams

Jane, Alice, Promeia and Aria are incredibly powerful when paired with Velina thanks to her low field time and amazing interactions with their respective Attributes. For the third member slot, we recommend choosing Yuzuha or Sunna, just make sure their Additional Core Ability is activated.

2. Velina Free To Play Teams

Velina's Free to play options aren't bad at all. Piper has always been a solid Anomaly character despite being an A rank, and Grace is now a lot better with her new Potential Unlocks. They're both very strong for free characters. Lucy and Rina might be in a tough spot right now compared to newer Supports, but they can still get the job done if you play carefully.

Velina Mindscape Cinema

M1: Orderly Elegance
  • Rating: ★★★★ (Great)
  • Effect: Sweeping Cyclone from Additional Ability: Tea Party Etiquette deals an additional 20% Daze. When Velina triggers Vortex, she ignores 20% of the target's All-Attribute RES. When squad members deal Windswept DMG, 20% of the target's Wind RES is ignored.
  • Velina's Mindscape 1 provides solid Attribute shred and Daze, making it a great upgrade to her already powerful DMG multipliers.
M2: Saturation Project
  • Rating: ★★★★ (Great)
  • Effect: When Velina triggers Windswept, she can also gain 1 point of Windbite. This effect can trigger once every 5s. After Sweeping Cyclone triggers the Chromatic Tint effect, it can accumulate the corresponding attribute's Anomaly Buildup. The buildup accumulated by this attack is excluded from Anomaly DMG calculations. The DMG increase effects of Velina's Windswept and Vortex from Additional Ability: Tea Party Etiquette are further increased by 15%.
  • A great quality of life upgrade for Velina, the additional Windbite point really helps speed up her gameplan. The DMG increase from it might not be apparent at first but it'll prove its worth in the long run.
M3: Conquest by Etiquette
  • Rating: ★ (Not Good)
  • Effect: Basic Attack, Assist, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2
  • Due to the nature of Anomaly characters, skill upgrades offer minimal changes in performance. This means that Velina's Mindscape 3 has negligible effects on her overall DMG.
M4: Tea Party Tribunal
  • Rating: ★★★ (Good)
  • Effect: When Velina uses an EX Special Attack, her ATK increases by 15% for 40s. Repeated triggers reset the duration.
  • Straightforward upgrade, easy to activate, but doesn't bring much value to the table compared to her other Mindscapes.
M5: Death Witch
  • Rating: ★ (Not Good)
  • Effect: Basic Attack, Assist, Dodge, Special Attack, and Chain Attack Lv. +2
  • As explained in Velina's Mindscape 3, skill upgrades for her offer minimal boost in performance.
M6: Chief Angel
  • Rating: ★★★★★ (Best)
  • Effect: When Velina consumes 2 points of Windbite to increase the DMG Multiplier of Vortex, she gains 1 point of Windbite. This effect can trigger once every 6s. When Velina hits an enemy suffering a Wind Attribute Anomaly, the Wind Attribute Anomaly Buildup she inflicts increases by 20%. When Velina inflicts Windswept on an enemy already affected by Windswept, the new Windswept's DMG increases based on the remaining duration of the previous. Each remaining second increases the DMG by 2.5%, up to a maximum of 40%.
  • The best Mindscape for Velina. When played properly, you can almost always get the enhanced version of her cyclones, this alone already makes her significantly stronger. But it doesn't stop at that, her Mindscape 6 also increases her Attribute Anomaly Buildup Rate and Windswept DMG, the more quickly you reapply Windswept, the more DMG it does.

Conclusion

Overall, Velina is an extremely versatile and powerful Anomaly Agent in Zenless Zone Zero. In the hands of an experienced player, she becomes an amazing character. We hope this Velina guide can provide you with a better understanding of her strengths and help you maximize her potential.
