Yale and Oliver are still one of the most satisfying Pyro units to build in Duet Night Abyss. Instead of attacking directly, they seed the field with bombs, freeze the timer, then let everything go off at once. Get the stats right, and this duo can strip a boss's Stance and clear a room in the same breath.
If you're gearing up for it, a Duet Night Abyss top ups on LootBar makes the grind a lot shorter.

Yale and Oliver Character Overview
| Character Overview | ||
Yale and Oliver | Element | Pyro |
| Role | DPS | |
| Weapon Type | Sword & Shotgun | |
- Playstyle: Ranged bomb specialist. Stays airborne and out of melee range, dropping Tot Poppers and detonating them in bursts rather than attacking directly
- Best For: Boss Stance breaking (Skill Range build) or single-target burst damage (Skill Intensity build)
How Their Kit Actually Works
Yale and Oliver's Tot Popper skill drops a bomb, and which version lands depends on one thing: whether your Skill Range or your Skill Intensity (Skill Damage) is higher.
Skill
Yale's Make shows up when Skill Range wins out. It hits for moderate damage but tears through Stance, so it's the pick for breaking boss shields. Oliver's Make shows up when Skill Intensity wins out instead, dealing far more raw damage, roughly 836% at level 1, climbing to 2,882% by level 12, nearly double Yale's Make at the same level. Push either stat 50% ahead of the other, and that bomb type is guaranteed. Up to 10 Tot Poppers can sit on the field at once, and one detonating sets off the rest nearby.
Ultimate
The ultimate, Nightmare's Grasp, is where the payoff happens. It throws down a 20-meter field that slows enemies and pauses every Tot Popper's fuse, letting you bank bombs past their normal timer, up to the 10-bomb cap. Close the field, and everything detonates together, each bomb adding to the final blast (up to roughly 960% bonus damage per bomb on top of a 2,400% base at max level). The more bombs stacked, the bigger the finish.
Passive
Two passives round out the kit. The Rules of Bomb rewards dropping bombs from at least 2 meters up with bonus landing damage, which is why the intended playstyle is a lot of jump-casting. Bombing Memories stacks up to three charges of Skill Efficiency every time you deploy a Tot Popper, which is what keeps the Sanity cost of all that spamming manageable.
Where to Spend Upgrade Materials
Tot Popper first, always, since it's the source of most of the damage.
Nightmare's Grasp next, since leveling it up strengthens both the slow and the final detonation.
The Rules of Bomb comes last, it's a solid landing-damage bump but the smallest piece of the puzzle.
Introns Worth Prioritizing
With Tot Poppers in Intron 1 mode, you're basically regaining Sanity each time one explodes, giving out 1 sanity for a different type of bomb and gaining 2 for a matching one. This way the kit is quite self-sustaining through the process. Nightmare Lab effect in Intron 2 has been upped to slow down at 60. With Intron 4, you have a 45% of chance getting a free Tot Popper at any time while placing one inside of the Nightmare Lab. Last but not least, Intron 6 is the only Intron that changes the actual flow of the gameplay, as bombs will be carrying both effects at once. That will do away with the necessity to choose which effect to prioritize, as both will be present at the same time. As for Introns 3 and 5 - they are just standard power-ups. Good to have, but not a game-changer.
Demon Wedges and Weapons
The current best DPS setup runs Devouring Wildfire, Inferno · Wildfire, Prime · Morale, several copies of Blaze · Inspo (ideally at +5), and Blastwave as the core. That combination leans into Skill Damage and Skill Efficiency together, which matches how the kit actually deals damage. Chasing a Range build instead? Swap a Blaze · Inspo for a wedge that trades damage for range and you'll guarantee Yale's Make.
For weapons, Wanewraith is the best sword and Excresduo the best shotgun, both for a straight Skill Damage boost.

If you're building Range instead, Withershade and Dregs of Glimmer are the better substitutes.

Team and Playstyle Fit
Fushu is one and Tabethe another of the supports you should put first of all. Fushu actually increases Skill DMG, and it multiplies everything that Yale and Oliver do, while Tabethe clusters the enemies so a Nightmare Lab detonation is sure to hit all of its targets. Electrelf is the top Geniemon choice, with Pyrelf and Pyrootail as the next best options.

As for the range-versus-damage question that defines this build: go damage for bosses and single targets, go range for clearing waves, and once Intron 6 is unlocked, stop worrying about it entirely, since every bomb gets both effects regardless of your stats.
Is the Investment Worth It?
Yale and Oliver ask more of the player than most units, jump-casting takes practice, and the stat math takes a minute to click. But once it clicks, few Pyro DPS units can both shred Stance and burst damage the way this duo can. If you're ready to commit, topping up Duet Night Abyss on LootBar gets you the Phoxene Plumule needed for their Introns and gear.

Conclusion
Once the stat ratio becomes second nature and bombs stack up before each explosion, Yale and Oliver become two of the strongest for a single attack combination units in the game. Even if you're trying to either break a boss's Stance or destroy a whole wave simultaneously, the gameplay loop will follow this pattern: fill the field first, then collect everything behind Nightmare's Grasp, and finally release the power. Once a player unlocks Intron 6, all the thinking about the ratio is over, as it has become an automatic process. Want to keep your improvements rolling and have a new round of upgrades ready?
