Inventory Effect vs Special Effect
Every artifact actually gives you two separate things: a Special Effect (the unique ability you read about, like "increases Final Damage when defeating a target") and an Inventory Effect, a flat stat bonus you get just from owning the artifact, even before equipping it as your active pick. Epic artifacts give Attack 50-300 and Max HP 500-3,000 as their Inventory Effect across upgrade levels. Unique artifacts give Attack 100-600 and Defense 70-420. Legendary artifacts each have their own unique Inventory Effect stat tied to their theme, Star Rock gives Defense, Book of Ancient gives Critical Rate, Soul Contract gives Skill Damage, and so on. This means collecting and upgrading artifacts has value even for the ones you're not actively running as your equipped picks, since the Inventory Effect applies passively just by having them in your collection.
