Currency Wars is one of the most interesting modes in Honkai: Star Rail because it changes how character value works. Some units that dominate regular endgame content are still excellent here, but Currency Wars also gives new life to characters who are usually considered weak, outdated, or niche. Since the mode is built around Bonds, Gold Coins, team size, equipment, and on-field/off-field effects, the best strategy is not simply picking your strongest account characters.

What is Currency War?
Currency Wars: Zero-Sum Game is a permanent strategy-focused mode in Honkai: Star Rail where players recruit characters, manage Gold Coins, activate Bonds, equip units, and build a squad across multiple battles. Instead of playing like normal Memory of Chaos or Pure Fiction content, Currency Wars works more like an auto-battler.
The most important part of Currency Wars is understanding that character strength is different here. Characters have unique Currency Wars roles, costs, star levels, Bonds, and sometimes completely different value compared to their normal HSR performance. Characters can be recruited from the shop with Gold Coins, and higher player levels increase the chance of seeing higher-rarity characters. Getting three copies of the same character can upgrade their star level, making them much stronger.
Best Currency Wars Teams
The best Currency Wars teams usually focus on one powerful Bond or one central carry. The strongest team types include Aglaea Energy, Castorice Bloodflame, Phainon Deliverer, Skill Point Burst, Elation, Break, and Express Cohort. Each team has a different win condition, so the best choice depends on which characters and equipment appear during your run.
Aglaea Energy Team
The Aglaea Energy Team is one of the strongest and most consistent Currency Wars teams. The core idea is to make Aglaea act as often as possible while Energy-based allies help her trigger more damage and maintain strong tempo. A strong version of this team uses Aglaea, Sunday, Cyrene, and Hyacine, with off-field options such as Fu Xuan, Tingyun, Huohuo, Tribbie, Anaxa, and Saber.
Aglaea is especially powerful with speed-based equipment because more turns mean more damage, more Energy interaction, and better late-game scaling. Energy Bond allies such as Sunday, Tingyun, and Huohuo help restore Energy and activate important Bond thresholds. Day Demigod synergy can also improve her speed scaling and damage output.

Castorice Bloodflame Team
The Castorice Bloodflame Team is another top option, especially for players who want a strong carry with sustain and scaling. A good core is Castorice, Cyrene, Bronya, and Hyacine, with off-field support from Blade, Luocha, Jingliu, Tribbie, Mydei, and Evernight.
This team works because Castorice benefits heavily from healing, HP-related effects, and support buffs. Cyrene and Bronya help unlock strong offensive value, while healers keep the Bloodflame engine stable. In this mode, Castorice is not just a damage dealer; she is a scaling win condition that becomes much harder to stop when the team has enough healing support.

Phainon Deliverer Team
The Phainon Deliverer Team is built around making Phainon enter and maintain his enhanced state as quickly as possible. The core team can use Phainon, Sunday, Cyrene, and Remembrance Trailblazer, with off-field options such as Tingyun, Sparkle, Gallagher, Robin, Cerydra, and Permansor Terrae.
This team is very carry-focused. Sunday and Tingyun help Phainon reach his Ultimate faster, while Cyrene can help keep him in his enhanced state. Robin and Cerydra are useful for increasing his offensive power, while Gallagher or Permansor Terrae can help the team survive longer fights.

Skill Point Burst Team
The Skill Point Team is one of the best teams for explosive damage. It focuses on characters who consume Skill Points and convert that resource into massive output. A strong version uses Sparxie, Imbibitor Lunae, Archer, and Sunday, with off-field options like Luocha, Huohuo, Sparkle, Tribbie, Cerydra, and Yao Guang.
This team is strong because its damage ceiling is extremely high when the Skill Point economy is stable. Sparkle is one of the best support pieces here because she helps restore or manage Skill Points. Momentum Edge is also important because it can restore Skill Points when the wearer consumes them. When Sparxie is used, Yao Guang becomes especially valuable because she adds more Elation damage to the setup.

Elation Team
The Elation Team deserves to be listed among the best Currency Wars teams because it can create huge value through Aha-based effects, Punchlines, and repeated Elation triggers. This team is especially fun because it does not play like a normal DPS setup. Instead of relying only on one traditional carry, Elation teams snowball through special mechanics and repeated burst windows.
A strong Elation setup can include Sparxie, Yao Guang, Elation Trailblazer, Silver Wolf LV.999 and Evanescia, depending on your shop and upgrades. Yao Guang is one of the most important pieces because her Currency Wars kit includes Elation support, Aha Instant interaction, Punchline generation, buffs for allies, and Vulnerable application on enemies.
Elation is also one of the best examples of why Currency Wars has its own meta. A character can be average or irrelevant in normal gameplay but become amazing here because of Bond effects. If your run gives you early Elation pieces, it is often worth committing, especially if you find Yao Guang or Silver Wolf LV.999.

Break Team
The Break Team is one of the easiest strong teams to understand. It uses multiple Break-focused DPS units and turns Break Efficiency into huge damage. A strong version uses Boothill, Firefly, Rappa, and Lingsha, with off-field options like Himeko, Ruan Mei, Gallagher, Robin, Fugue, and The Dahlia.
This team becomes much stronger when you fully commit to Break. Boothill, Firefly, and Rappa together give the team reliable Break damage, while Lingsha and Gallagher help with sustain. Wormhole Drill is especially important because Break Efficiency directly improves Break damage. Boothill and Rappa can also help activate Galaxy Ranger synergy for extra speed value.

Express Cohort Team
The Express Cohort Team is a strong alternative if you find the right pieces early. A good core can include Imbibitor Lunae, Welt, Sunday, and Remembrance Trailblazer, with off-field options such as Himeko, Luocha, March 7th, Sparkle, Yunli, and Cerydra.
This team works well because Imbibitor Lunae is one of the strongest DPS units in Currency Wars, especially when paired with Skill Point support. Express Cohort units can add extra damage through Light Rail effects, and Sparkle helps keep the Skill Point engine alive. Welt and March 7th are also much more useful here than many players might expect because their value comes from Bonds, utility, and mode-specific interactions rather than normal endgame rankings.

Best Characters in Currency Wars
The best Currency Wars characters are usually the ones that either carry an entire team or enable a powerful Bond. Top carry options include Aglaea, Castorice, Phainon, Imbibitor Lunae, Firefly, Boothill, Rappa, Archer, Sparxie, Silver Wolf LV.999, and The Herta.
The best support and utility characters include Sunday, Cyrene, Sparkle, Tingyun, Huohuo, Robin, Bronya, Ruan Mei, Hyacine, Cerydra, Yao Guang, Gallagher, Luocha, Fu Xuan, and Tribbie. These characters are valuable because they improve Energy, Skill Points, healing, speed, buffs, Break damage, Elation triggers, or carry uptime.
A good Currency Wars team usually needs one main carry, two or three support pieces, and enough off-field units to complete Bonds. Do not fill your team only with expensive DPS characters. A cheap support that completes a Bond can be more valuable than a stronger-looking unit that does not fit your board.
Currency Wars Strategy Tips
The biggest mistake in Currency Wars is spending too many Gold Coins too early. You need to buy useful units, but you also need to save enough currency to level up, reach better shop odds, and build toward stronger late-game characters. The shop uses Gold Coins, and character rarity availability improves as your level increases.
In the early game, focus on cheap units, basic Bonds, and survival. Do not force a perfect final team immediately. In the mid game, choose one direction: Energy, Bloodflame, Skill Points, Elation, Break, Deliverer, or Express Cohort. In the late game, stop buying random units and focus on upgrading your carry, finishing Bonds, and giving your best equipment to the characters that actually win fights.
The best strategy is simple: pick a strong carry, build the right Bond around them, protect your economy, and commit once the shop gives you a clear direction.
