12 pets at launch. Unicorn, Black Dragon, and Ice Serpent lead S-tier. Raccoon steals from other players at night. Deer is the best early buy at 50,000 Sheckles. Full breakdown.
Pets in Grow a Garden 2 are not cosmetic. They patrol the garden, apply mutations, defend against thieves, and steal from other players at night. Unlike the original game where pets hatched from eggs, GaG2 pets spawn randomly around the map with a countdown timer. Walk up, pay Sheckles before the timer hits zero, then escort the pet back to the garden before another player outbids. Up to five pets can be deployed at once. This guide covers all 12 pets at launch using data from the official Grow a Garden 2 Fandom Wiki. Robux for game passes are available through LootBar.

How to Get Pets in GaG2
Pets spawn randomly on the map with a timer showing how long they remain. Purchase with Sheckles before the timer expires. If it runs out, the pet disappears permanently from that spawn. Another player can also try to buy the same pet — escort it quickly to the garden to secure it.
Pets can also be obtained from Eggs, purchased with Robux, or traded with other players. Map spawns are the free method and the most consistent way to build a pet roster without spending Robux.
S-Tier Pets
Unicorn — 4,000,000 Sheckles (Mythic)
Doubles the chance for plants and fruit to turn Rainbow. Rainbow mutation multiplies crop value by 25 to 30 times. Since mutations do not stack in GaG2 — a crop can only carry one mutation at a time — having the right mutation matters. Rainbow is the highest value obtainable mutation in the game and Unicorn is the only pet that boosts the chance of getting it.
Pro Game Guides ranks Unicorn as the top S-tier pet. Stack multiple Unicorns across all five pet slots to maximize Rainbow chance across every crop in the garden.
Black Dragon — Price Varies (Mythic)
Sets intruders on fire when they try to steal from the garden at night. The fire attack makes stealing from a Black Dragon-protected garden extremely difficult. Players who run high-value mutated crops need active night defense — Black Dragon is the primary option.
Ice Serpent — 20,000,000 Sheckles (Super)
The most expensive pet in the game. Freezes intruders who try to steal, giving the garden defense a secondary layer on top of Black Dragon. A garden protected by both Black Dragon and Ice Serpent is close to impenetrable at night.
At 20,000,000 Sheckles, Ice Serpent is a late-game investment. Save it for when the garden consistently produces enough value that losing a single harvest overnight costs more than the pet itself.
Raccoon — 5,000,000 Sheckles (Super)
Sneaks out at night to steal a random fruit from another player’s garden. Also raises the steal limit by 25, which increases how many fruits can be taken during active nighttime stealing.
For players who want to maximize income through both farming and stealing, Raccoon is the core pet. Pair with Bunny for speed during active steals, or leave it to work passively while offline.
A-Tier Pets
Monkey — 1,000,000 Sheckles (Mythic)
Swings around the garden and picks ripe fruit automatically, delivering it directly. The auto-harvest mechanic means crops never sit unpicked while offline. For players who want passive income without logging in to harvest manually, Monkey handles the collection.
Golden Dragonfly — 3,000,000 Sheckles (Mythic)
Doubles the chance for plants and fruit to turn Gold. Gold mutation multiplies crop value by 10 to 15 times. Less powerful than Rainbow but more consistent — the lower multiplier comes with a higher base chance of triggering. Stack multiple Golden Dragonflies for a steady Gold income strategy.
Bee — 1,000,000 Sheckles (Legendary)
Patrols the garden and swarms any intruder who tries to steal. Bee is a defensive pet, not a mutation pet. Works alongside Black Dragon and Ice Serpent to add another layer of protection. Useful for mid-game players who cannot yet afford 20,000,000 Sheckles for Ice Serpent.
Deer — 50,000 Sheckles (Rare)
Trots around the garden and boosts all plant growth by 10% faster. The most affordable high-value pet in the game. At 50,000 Sheckles, a new player can buy Deer within the first few sessions. The 10% growth boost applies to every crop simultaneously, which compounds into significantly more harvests per session over time.
Best early purchase on this list. Robin is similarly priced but Deer’s growth speed benefit is more universally useful than Robin’s seed drops.
B-Tier Pets
Robin — 75,000 Sheckles (Legendary)
Flies around the garden eating ripe fruits and occasionally drops seeds as a bonus. The seed drops add a small passive income stream but the effect is inconsistent. Robin is more useful for players who want automatic harvesting of ripe fruits than for players focused on mutation income.
Bunny — 20,000 Sheckles (Uncommon)
Hops around and boosts movement speed by +5. Cheap at 20,000 Sheckles. Speed matters most during nighttime stealing runs where outrunning a Black Dragon after grabbing a fruit is the difference between profit and losing the attempt. Pair with Raccoon for a complete stealing setup.
C-Tier Pets
Owl — 25,000 Sheckles (Uncommon)
Extends view distance at night and hoots when a rare pet spawns on the map. Useful utility for players who actively hunt rare pet spawns, but does not directly boost income or protect the garden. A luxury pick after the core pets are already in place.
Frog — 10,000 Sheckles (Common)
Hops around and boosts jump height by +5. The cheapest pet in the game. The jump height does almost nothing for farming or stealing efficiency. Buy a Frog if every other pet is already owned and there are Sheckles left with nothing better to spend on.
Best Pet Combos
Full offense: Raccoon plus Bunny. Raccoon steals passively at night, Bunny gives the speed to escape during active steals.
Full defense: Black Dragon plus Ice Serpent plus Bee. Three layers of protection — fire, freeze, and swarm. Near-impenetrable at night.
Maximum Rainbow income: stack Unicorns across all five pet slots. Every crop has maximum chance of Rainbow mutation each harvest.
Balanced early game: Deer plus Bunny plus Robin. Growth speed, movement speed, auto-harvest. Total cost under 150,000 Sheckles.
Conclusion
Unicorn for Rainbow mutations. Black Dragon and Ice Serpent for night defense. Raccoon for passive stealing income. Monkey for auto-harvest. Golden Dragonfly for Gold mutations. Bee for a cheaper defensive option. Deer for the best early-game value at 50,000 Sheckles. Bunny for stealing speed. Robin for seed drops. Owl for rare pet alerts. Frog for nothing useful. The five pet slots are the most important resource management decision in GaG2 — who fills them determines both how much the garden earns and how much of that it keeps overnight.
