Scavenger Mount Overview
The Scavenger Mount in Gothic 1 Remake is a rideable scavenger you can unlock as a personal mount. You can use it as an early traversal upgrade before fast travel becomes available later. You summon it using a Scavenger Whistle, once unlocked. The mount is specifically tied to a side quest called Beak Performance given by an NPC named Cohsel. The goal is to complete the requirements to unlock the Scavenger mount. It can be summoned anywhere in the open world, but cannot enter camps or tight areas. You can also not use it in combat, but for fast travel. Looking to purchase the Gothic 1 Remake Steam Key, LootBar offers a discounted deal with quick delivery and a safe transaction method.

How To Unlock Scavenger Mount
Unlocking the Scavenger Mount in Gothic 1 Remake requires you to find Cohsel and start the Beak Performance quest. After that, collect the required materials and deliver them to Cohsel. However, you must wait 1 in-game day to receive the Scavenger Whistle from Cohsel. This item is what actually summons your mount.
- Cohsel → Beak Performance quest → collect plants/pelts/leather → wait 1 day → get whistle → summon mount
Find Cohsel
The first step to get the Scavenger Mount is to find the Cohsel and exhaust all his dialogues. This NPC is located in the area between Old Camp and New Camp. This hidden hunter NPC lives in the small hut in the forest with animals nearby. Make sure to follow the following route from the Old Camp.
- Exit the Old Camp (North Gate).
- Turn left and follow the main dirt path
- Reach a crossroads with a signpost
- Take the right path downhill
- Pass through a valley and go past Cavalorn’s hut
- Continue moving up a small hill with broken logs.
- Turn slightly left at the top of the hill to see a tamed wolf and a Scavenger near a hut.
Trigger Beak Performance Quest
Once you find Cohsel, ask him about the Scavengers. He will initially refuse to teach you. You must keep selecting dialogue about riding. Make sure to ask 2-3 times until he agrees. Cohsel finally unlocks the dialogue option, triggering the “Beak Performance” side quest. The materials are required to craft a saddle and tame the mount.
Collect Kingstide
The quest requires you to collect 5x Kingstide plants from the water area for Cohsel. Kingstide is an underwater herb that only grows on the bottom of lakes and deep water areas. The big lake next to the New Camp is the most recommended farming location for this material. Another viable spot is the large lake near Old Camp, containing Kingstide at the lakebed.
- Go to the river near the bridge of Old Camp.
- Gather 5x Kingstide from this river.
You cannot efficiently farm Kingstide without diving. I recommend going to the Homer in the New Camp Dam area and learning diving skills. This lets you stay underwater long enough to search properly. You need to look for purple/pink glowing algae on the ground. Return to Cohsel with Kingstide, and he asks you to bring 2 more different materials.
Get Wolf Skins
Once you get your hands on the Kingstide, it’s time to create the saddle. Cohsel asks you to bring 3 Wolf Skins and 2 Leather Strips. Wolf Pelts are obtained from wolves, but there are multiple ways depending on your skills. You can obtain it by hunting wolves in the forest area near Cohsel’s hut (west of Old Camp). Make your way towards the New Camp wilderness routes. After that, move around abandoned hunting camps to farm wolves. Below are some requirements to get the 3x Wolf Skins.
- You must have Skinning or Hunting Skill (Wolf Skinning) to get Wolf Skins properly.
- This skill can be learned from hunter Aidan or Drax-type hunter trainers.
- Ensure you have 250 ore nuggets + 1 learning point to learn this skill from Adrian.
The game also offers you another method to get Wolf Skins in Gothic 1 Remake. Find & interact with the Cavalorn near the Old Camp route to purchase the Wolf Pelts. If the Wolf Skins are out of stock, then sleep on the bed to freshen them. This is the fastest and safest method early game if you have ore.
Get Leather Strips
Leather Strips are the easiest part of the quest because they are not hunted items. You can simply purchase Leather Strips from NPC traders.
- Fisk (Old Camp blacksmith)
- Other blacksmiths / general traders in camps
If you don’t want to spend ore, then search chests inside camps or loot huts. I also recommend checking hunter camps and storage crates. This is a common crafting material, so they appear fairly often in loot pools.
Deliver items to Cohsel
Once you collect all the required materials, return to the Cohsel. Interact with him and choose to give him all the resources. He begins crafting the saddle/mount setup.
Use the Mount
Cohsel now asks you to wait for 1 in-game day to get your reward. You must sleep or wait until midnight and then return to him. Interact with him to get your own Rideable Scavenger whistle. Here are the steps to use your mount.
- Equip the whistle.
- Use it to summon the Scavenger.
- Press the F button on the keyboard to mount or dismount.
- Use the Z button to Sprint and the Spacebar to jump.
As mentioned above, you cannot take your Scavenger mount inside the camp or caves. You must leave it outside these locations, as you can resummon it anytime using the Scavenger Whistle.
Conclusion
Scavenger Mount in Gothic 1 Remake is your exploration companion, not the combat one. It must be unlocked in the early game to make your traversal and progression fast. Unlocking it requires you to complete the Beak Performance side quest. Kingstides, Wolf Skins, and Leather Strips are the required materials for crafting a saddle. Once done with that, Cohsel rewards you with a Scavenger Whistle the next day. Equip the whistle and use it to summon your own Scavenger Mount. Hit the appropriate button to mount it and enjoy your quick ride in Gothic 1 Remake. If you’re still looking for a Gothic 1 Remake Steam Key, LootBar offers the best deal.
