How To Complete Minecrawler’s Nest Quest

This quest happens in Chapter 2 and sends you from the Swamp Camp into the Old Mine. Minecrawler’s Nest quest in Gothic 1 Remake ends with the Minecrawler Queen boss fight.

Start the Quest

Start Minecrawler’s Nest Quest

To start the Minecrawler’s Nest Quest in Gothic 1 Remake, you don’t get it automatically. This quest only begins once you’re in Chapter 2 of the story. Head to the alchemy lab or treehouse area in the Swamp Camp and speak to Cor Kalom. He will talk about minecrawler material for a ritual. This NPC assigns you the investigation task, triggering the quest. After initiating this quest, you should also talk to Cor Angar. He will send you into a strength test and teach you minecrawler harvesting techniques.

Enter Old Mine & Find Lester

Enter Old Mine

Before you even reach Lester, the game often blocks entry. This requires you to complete the Cor Angar duel with Gor Na Dun. After that, get Cor Angar’s approval to investigate the Old Mine. The rules of the duel are: do not leave the platform and do not kill your enemy. Once you defeat Gor Na Dun, Cor Angar is satisfied and tells you to find Lester. The Old Mine is located at the northwest end of the Colony.

Talk to Lester

Go down the main wooden walkways and shafts. Make sure to keep descending toward the deepest mining level and follow the light resources or the yellow lantern path. You can find a large ore smelting furnace at the bottom level in the center. You can find multiple branching tunnels around it. Lester is located on the lowest level of the mine near a collapsed tunnel, standing with a guard nearby. Below are the steps to reach Lester in Gothic 1 Remake.

  • From the furnace, go straight behind it
  • Continue down the main corridor
  • Pass miners or tunnels.
  • At the fork, take the slightly left, upward-sloping passage.
  • You’ll reach a blocked tunnel.
  • Lester is right there near that blockage.

After you find him, he explains that the Minecrawler nest is behind collapsed tunnels. He also tells you to get Ian’s permission and recruit 3 Templars.

Complete Ian’s “Cog in the Wheel” Task

Complete Ian’s “Cog in the Wheel” Task

Ian is in the Old Mine main shaft, available on the middle level of Old Mine. He tells you the ore crushing machine is broken, and a replacement cogwheel is needed. Your objective is to bring him a cogwheel to help him with the nest. Make your way down to the wooden ramps and pass the guard below. You must continue into the deeper mine section and take the right-side tunnel near the guard checkpoint.

  • Once inside the correct tunnel, follow it straight to the end to reach two ladders going down.
  • Climb down both ladders to reach a lower mining platform area.
  • Take out your weapon before moving forward, as this area is filled with smaller Minecrawlers.
  • The cog is on a wooden platform near a mechanical ore machine or lever.
  • Make sure to take out the Minecrawlers guarding it and loot the cogwheel.
  • Go back to Ian in the Old Mine and hand over the cogwheel. He will then repair the machine and agree to help you open the collapsed tunnel.

Recruit Templars for the Assault

Recruit Templars for the Assault

After Ian repairs the ore machine, you must return to Lester. He asks you to recruit the following 3 Templars.

  • Gor Na Kosh: Located in the lower camp area near the main shaft. Joins easily if you talk to him about the nest fight.
  • Gor Na Vid: Nearby Gor Na Kosh in the same lower area. You need to bring him a Swampweed or swamp fumes item before he agrees.
  • Gor Na Bar: Found higher up in the mine (upper shaft path). Needs combat proof, minecrawler kills, or mandibles.

When you speak to each Templar, choose dialogue about “Assaulting the Minecrawler Nest”. They will agree only if you have already finished the Cog in the Wheel task. Once all three agree, return to Lester. You can now return to Ian as the passage-clearing event is unlocked.

Open the Nest

Open the Nest

Approach the mine supervisor (Asghan) near the same shaft. Tell him that Ian approved reopening the tunnel and Templars are ready. This lets you unlock the explosive charge sequence. Miners place explosive charges at the blocked tunnel. You and NPCs gather at the entrance to trigger a short dialogue. Once everything is ready, the explosives are triggered automatically, and the rock wall collapses. There’s a long tunnel inside the nest covered with webs. I recommend using torches to light your way and harvest claws from defeated Minecrawlers. Find resources from every corner and bring healing potions before heading inside the cave.

Boss Fight – Minecrawler Queen

Once you reach the end of the dungeon, you will encounter the Minecrawler Queen. The fight has 2 phases, and her moveset expands in Phase 2. Your goal is to stay close on her side and roll through the belly slam. Phase 1 is all about hit and dodge, while Phase 2 requires you to keep distance and spam spells.

Phase 1

Minecrawler Queen Phase 1

Get ready to move to the right side of the Queen and wait for the claw swing. You must hit once or twice max and roll out or circle back quickly. Standing in one place can lead you into trouble, giving the opportunity to the boss to deal massive damage. Queen stays mostly locked in place, and your position decides her attack type. Stay at her side to reduce direct claw chains and web frequency.

Attack

What It Does

How To Counter

Claw Swings

If you stay close in front of her, she performs 1-3 claw attacks. This includes fast first hits, follow-up strikes, and a wider sweep.

Stay on her side and parry her first attack. Then immediately counter 1-2 hits only.

Web Shot

If you move away from her, she spits web balls.

Side dodge or move diagonally instead of straight back.

Phase 2

Minecrawler Queen Phase 2

After you reduce her HP to 50%, the Queen retreats deeper into the tunnel and becomes faster and more aggressive. She adds AoE attacks and leap pressure during the fight. You need to stay at her side or rear angle and wait for a sweep or leap.

Attack

What It Does

How To Counter

Enhanced Melee Combo

Faster version of Phase 1 combo and follows with fast claw strike and second follow-up slash.

Never stay directly in front. Dodge forward into her and sideways after you see the sweep.

Belly Slam

Jumps up and slams her body down to create a large AoE shock around her.

Time a roll toward her body during the slam.

Faster Web

Use ranged attack more often if you create distance.

Don’t retreat too far, but close the distance immediately after you dodge.

Leap Attack

Jumps toward your position. It can reposition aggressively across the tunnel.

Watch for crouch animation and dodge sideways, not backward.

Once you defeat the boss, loot Minecrawler Eggs and return them to Cor Kalom. This completes the Minecrawler's Nest Quest in Gothic 1 Remake.

Conclusion

Minecrawler’s Nest Quest is the Chapter 2 main story quest where you recruit Templars in Old Mine. The objective is to open the sealed tunnel, enter the nest, kill the Minecrawler Queen, and collect eggs for Cor Kalom. You must not fight multiple Minecrawlers at once, so always pull enemies out one by one. The nest looks like a maze, so stick to the walls to check loot paths. Bring the best weapon and consumables before starting the quest to dominate the enemies. Clear enemies before dropping down ladders, and use a bow or ranged attacks to reduce risk.
