Moontide Sea Puzzle Walkthrough
The Moontide Sea Puzzle is a multi-stage exploration puzzle in the Moontide Sea area of the Nod-Krai region. Instead of being a single puzzle, it is a regional challenge where you restore three Pioneer Source Structures. You can simply find these scattered across the area to activate a central mechanism. Below are all the objectives to complete the Moontide Sea Puzzle in Genshin Impact.
- Find all three Pioneer Source Structures hidden in different parts of the Moontide Sea.
- Solve the environmental puzzle at each location by using Archaeolune Energy and activating mechanisms.
- Once all three structures are restored, they return to the central platform, activating the main tower.
Completing the entire puzzle unlocks a rising central tower, multiple treasure chests, and a hidden portal leading to additional secret treasure. Sometimes the required energy spheres fail to appear due to a bug. This requires you to restart the game or teleport away from the area and return to let them spawn correctly. How To Complete Moontide Sea Puzzle
Complete the Visitors From the Stars subquest of the Moon Gazing quest chain to unlock the Moontide Sea. Go all the way to the north side of the Moontide Sea map to find the Moontide Sea puzzle. I recommend using the nearby teleport waypoint on the north side to reach the puzzle area. Below are all the steps to complete the Moontide Sea Puzzle in Genshin Impact.
First Pioneer Source Structure (North Ruins)
To solve the first Pioneer Source Structure in the North Ruins section of the Moontide Sea Puzzle, you need to restore a damaged structure. This can only be done by finding its missing component and reactivating it. Head to the northern ruins from the central Moontide Sea puzzle area. You can find a Pioneer Source Structure beside an elevator leading underground. This is the first of the three structures needed to complete the regional puzzle.
Use the elevator to descend into the underground chamber. Once below, find the nearby Archaeolune Energy source. Make sure to approach and collect its energy. After that, interact with the adjacent energy sphere or mechanism. Doing so activates the structure, but it won't complete because a key component is missing. Take the elevator back up and look for the airborne enemies flying above the ruins. They are carrying the missing fragment required to repair the Pioneer Source Structure.
Defeat the airborne enemies to recover the missing component. Once eliminated, the missing piece is restored to the Pioneer Source Structure automatically. Once fully repaired, the Pioneer Source Structure activates and travels back to the central Moontide Sea platform. This completes the North Ruins portion of the Moontide Sea Puzzle.
Second Pioneer Source Structure (Southwest)
The Southwest Ruins Pioneer Source Structure is the second of the three structures you must restore to complete the Moontide Sea Puzzle. This puzzle focuses on using an Ancient Moon Pearl and Archaeolune Energy.
Head southwest from the central Moontide Sea puzzle hub till you find a wandering Pioneer Source Structure. This carries an Ancient Moon Pearl, which is crucial for solving the puzzle. Approach and interact with the Pioneer Source Structure and remove its Archaeolune Energy. This releases the Ancient Moon Pearl, letting you move it freely. You need to guide the released Ancient Moon Pearl to the partially submerged pedestal nearby. When the pearl reaches the correct pedestal:
- The mechanism activates.
- A treasure chest appears.
- A dormant Pioneer Source Structure is revealed.
After that, look for a nearby Archaeolune Energy sphere and absorb the energy. This allows you to power the newly revealed dormant Pioneer Source Structure. Aim the Archaeolune Energy at the dormant Pioneer Source Structure and throw the energy at it. Once energized, the structure activates and automatically travels back to the central Moontide Sea platform.
Third Pioneer Source Structure (Northeast)
The Northeast Ruins Pioneer Source Structure is the third and final structure required to complete the Moontide Sea Puzzle in Genshin Impact. Head to the northeastern ruins from the central Moontide Sea platform. You can find the following things here in this ruin.
- An empty pedestal.
- Two red interception devices that block or capture energy spheres.
- An inactive Pioneer Source Structure waiting to be restored.
Keep moving towards the far northeast edge of the ruins until you locate an Archaeolune Energy Sphere. This sphere is required to activate the empty pedestal near the inactive Pioneer Source Structure. The main challenge for you here is to push the Archaeolune Energy Sphere back toward the empty pedestal. This must be done while avoiding the two red interception devices.
If the sphere is intercepted, you'll need to reposition it and try again. Make sure to take your time and move the sphere through safe openings in the patrol routes until it reaches the pedestal. Once the Archaeolune Energy Sphere reaches the empty pedestal:
- The mechanism activates.
- A large treasure chest appears nearby.
- The next energy source required to restore the Pioneer Source Structure becomes available.
Open the newly unlocked chest to obtain Archaeolune Energy and pick up the Archaeolune Energy. You need to throw or transfer it to the dormant Pioneer Source Structure. This lets the structure power up immediately. After that, the Pioneer Source Structure automatically travels back to the central Moontide Sea platform. A cutscene triggers when all three Pioneer Source Structures are restored. The central tower rises from the platform, and you ride the elevator to the top and claim the following multiple rewards.
- Multiple treasure chests, including Exquisite, Precious, and Luxurious Chests.
- A rising central tower.
- A portal leading to a secret treasure.
Find a floating rock with a lot of Moon Pearls on it at the top side of Transit Station. Use an Archaeolune Ripple and get two chests buried here. Also, look at the top of the rock to find Lunoculus.
Conclusion
The Moontide Sea puzzle in Genshin Impact is challenging for players because it’s a multi-stage puzzle. Each Pioneer Source Structure has its own puzzle mechanics. Ride an elevator underground in North Ruins, collect Archaeolune Energy, activate a mechanism, then defeat airborne enemies. In Southwest Ruins, free an Ancient Moon Pearl from a wandering Pioneer Source Structure, then guide it to a submerged pedestal to reveal a dormant structure. Retrieve an Archaeolune Energy Sphere and carefully guide it past red interception devices to an empty pedestal in Northeast Ruins. This unlocks a chest containing the energy needed to restore the final Pioneer Source Structure.
