How to Unlock Berserkers

In order to access the Berserkers initially, you will have to unlock a specific side quest or favor (or what Ragnarok calls them). Firstly, players have to initiate the Fit for a King favor, which is only obtainable when you have progressed Really in the main story. You need to be in Chapter 9 also titled Word of Fate, if you want to come across this quest. As soon as you obtain the Inert Hilt of Skofnung, you will be able to commence a battle by engaging with any Berserker Gravestone.

1. Fraekni the Zealous (Midgard) - EASY

lake of nine

Location: North of the Lake of Nine Mystic Gateway in Midgard.

Difficulty: Easiest of all Berserkers. Players can find the first Gravestone to the north of The Lake of Nine in Midgard. They will find and battle Fraekni the Zealous.

How to Beat: Fraekni is your warm-up fight. Use basic parrying and dodging. Most of his attacks are blockable. Stay aggressive and use quick combos.

Rewards: Berserker Waist Guard, 2 Tempered Remnants, 25 Bonded Leather, 25 Shattered Runes.

2. Hardrefill the Callous (Svartalfheim) - MODERATE

Nidavellir

Location: Nidavellir Beach area. Use the Draupnir Spear to swing across to the mining wagon that takes you up to the Forge area.

Difficulty: Moderate difficulty. Hardrefill the Callous fights with a large sword and uses lots of guard-breaking attacks. Watch out for his unblockable air drop attack which you must avoid with a well-timed dodge.

How to Beat: Most of his close-ranged attacks are parryable or blockable. Be careful as his air drop attacks are unblockable  dodge twice to escape.

Rewards: Asgard's Fortitude Amulet Enchantment, 2 Tempered Remnants, 25 Bonded Leather, 25 Shattered Runes.

3. Beigadr the Feared (Svartalfheim) - HARD

Alberich Island

Location: Alberich Island on the north side of the Bay of Bounty in Svartalfheim.

Difficulty: One of the hardest. He's an absolute unit and uses a combination of ranged lightning attacks, teleporting, and his fists to immobilize and beat up Kratos.

How to Beat: Keep distance to avoid his lightning. Dodge his teleport attacks. Use quick ranged attacks like the Draupnir Spear.

Rewards: Asgard's Might Enchantment, Tempered Remnants, Bonded Leather, Shattered Runes.

4. Starolfr the Troublesome & Bodvar the Fierce (Svartalfheim) - HARD (2v2)

Jarnsmida Pitmines

Location: Near The Applecore Mystic Gateway in the mines.

Difficulty: This is a dual boss fight. This one will have Kratos fight two enemies instead of one, Starolfr the Troublesome and Bodvar the Fierce.

How to Beat: Bodvar will fight with two shields and Starolfr will wield two swords. Bodvar is a much tougher opponent, so keep an eye on the boss. Be careful as Starolfr will sometime cling to a wall and throw knives. Best method to beat them is to take care of the weaker boss first, Starolfr, then fully focus on Bodvar.

Rewards: Hind of the Nine Realms, Gale Flame, 5 Tempered Remnants, 80 Bonded Leather, 75 Shattered Runes.

5. Svipdagr the Cold & Sisters of Illska (Alfheim) - BRUTAL (3v1)

The Barrens

Location: Southeast of Alfheim's Barrens, bordered by giant pillars. You need to free the Hafgufa causing the sandstorm first to access it.

Difficulty: Triple boss fight. This triple boss fight is one of the mid-level berserker fights. Svipdagr's Berserker Gravestone sits along the sandy dunes and rocky borders in the southeast of Alfheim's Barrens bordered by giant pillars.

How to Beat: Focus on one enemy at a time. Use AOE attacks to catch multiple enemies. Keep moving to avoid getting surrounded.

Rewards: Berserker Cuirass, Frozen Flame, Asgard's Security Enchantment, 5 Tempered Remnants, 180 Bonded Leather, 75 Shattered Runes.

6. Haromir of the Hill (Vanaheim) - MODERATE

Vanaheim

Location: Vanaheim, in the midgame section.

Difficulty: Moderate challenge with simpler patterns than later Berserkers.

How to Beat: Learn his attack patterns. Use your most powerful Runic attacks when he recovers. Stay defensive if needed.

Rewards: Tempered Remnants, Bonded Leather, Shattered Runes.

7. Gna (Alfheim) - VERY HARD

the barrens area

Location: Alfheim's The Barrens area (tricky to access).

Difficulty: Very challenging fight with unique mechanics.

How to Beat: Use equipment that boosts your defenses. Keep distance and chip away with ranged attacks. Learn her move set before going aggressive.

Rewards: Unique enchantments and upgrade materials.

8. Vanaheim (The Sinkholes) - HARD

sinkholes

Location: A hidden area in The Sinkholes, unlocked through the Scent of Survival Favor.

Difficulty: Hard due to powerful dragons, tough enemy encounters, and challenging exploration.

How to Beat: Upgrade your gear, stay mobile during dragon fights, and use ranged attacks to hit weak points safely.

Rewards: Dragon crafting materials, armor upgrades, collectibles, and Favor completion rewards.

9. Skjothendi the Unerring (Niflheim) - EXTREMELY HARD

Mist Fields

Location: To the west of the Mist Fields Mystic Gateway in Niflheim. Available only after completing the main game.

Difficulty: It might be the most challenging boss out of all Berserkers since Skjothendi the Unerring uses Bifrost and is very quick.

How to Beat: Try to equip the Remedy of the Bifrost and Celestial Panacea Amulet Enchantments if you have them. Draupnir Spear's Elemental Siphon II skill is very effective since holding R2 makes Kratos temporarily resistant to Bifrost. Almost every attack results in Bifrost but the one that is the most lethal is the one that hits Kratos's entire HP with Bifrost. Though, it can be countered if players throw a Spear or an Axe at the right time to stop the boss. Skjothendi is quite fast and easily teleports anywhere in the arena, which will push players to engage in a close-combat fight.

Rewards: Berserker Gauntlets, Tempered Remnants, Bonded Leather, Shattered Runes.

10. King Hrolf Kraki (Midgard) - THE FINAL BOSS

king's Grave

Location: King's Grave in Midgard that's the same place where you found the original Inert Hilt of Skofnung.

Difficulty: The toughest one by far in this huge sequel game. King Hrolf is the hardest God of War Ragnarok boss by a long shot.

How to Beat: King Hrolf's attacks are all melee-based but he can change up his moves with a mixture of sword, axe and fist attacks that can be either blocked or not, coming to him from close up or further away when he dashes and jumps around the arena. Some attacks can hit you even if you are not exactly in the same spot but only close by. It is best if you equip the Draupnir Spear with the Mighty Olympic Sauroter handles because you will be able to keep inflicting damage even from a distance. Select Fury Spartan Rage because in this mode you will be able to both energize and save your life all at once. One of the ways that work best is to constantly impale the Berserker King with spears before holding triangle whilst detonating to blast to maximum power. Make use of these moves fast and throw in some heavier attacks while he is down. Keep using Freya's arrows and abilities to break the Berserker King and keep him down.

Rewards: Hilt of Skofnung Relic, Helheim's Virtue, 300 Bonded Leather.

General Tips for All Berserkers

  • Upgrade your gear to level 9 before attempting the hardest ones

  • I don't recommend tackling them until you beat the game.

  • Bring a Resurrection Stone for emergencies

  • Learn attack patterns before going aggressive

  • Use Runic attacks to interrupt dangerous moves

  • Save your Spartan Rage for when you're in trouble

Conclusion

In God of War Ragnarok, the Berserkers are the deadliest optional challenge and they are also featuring some of the most incredible boss battles that one can experience through a video game. Be it a clash with a solitary boss or with multiple ones, these Berserkers encounters are definitely the most challenging ones in the whole game. If you don't want to get overwhelmed, start with Fraekni, then progress through the medium level fights, and finally challenge King Hrolf when you are fully upgraded. The armor set of the Berserkers which you get after defeating them is by many considered to be the best one in the entire game so that makes every hard fight totally worth it. Don't rush, understand moves, and you will sooner or later beat all of them.
