Hoshiguma the Breacher Overview
Hoshiguma the Breacher is a 6-star Carnival Limited Arts Protector Defender from the Lungmen Guard Department, an alternate version of Hoshiguma built around aggressive Arts damage and high-risk tanking. Her attacks deal Arts damage while her skill is active, and she trades raw HP and DEF for higher ATK and innate RES that scales per Elite. Her first talent Gouka, triggers the Ātmagrāha state when her HP drops below 1%, letting her keep absorbing damage without dying until accumulated damage reaches 200% of her max HP. Then regenerating back to full if she stays untouched for a few seconds. Her second talent Oni Battle Stance, scales her ATK and RES the more HP she loses. Her signature skill Hell Itself, extends her range to the surrounding 8 tiles plus 1×3 cardinal extensions, hits up to 3 targets twice per attack, and on deactivation grants 11 seconds of unkillable status during which she redirects fatal damage from allies onto herself before being forcibly retreated.
Hoshiguma the Breacher Talents
Below are Hoshiguma the Breacher's talent breakdowns in Arknights:
Talent 1 - Gouka (Unlocked at Elite 1, improves at Elite 2)
When the Breacher's HP drops below 1%, she enters the Ātmagrāha state. She cannot be healed by allies. The incoming damage accumulates as a separate counter shown as dark red on her HP bar instead of reducing her HP. Once accumulated damage reaches 200% of her max HP at Elite 2 she is knocked out. After 5 seconds without taking damage she regenerates 5% HP per second, then clears the damage buildup, and exits Ātmagrāha once her HP rises above 1%. Wandering Medics can still remove Elemental Injuries during this state. Potential 5 reduces the no-damage threshold to 4 seconds.
Talent 2 - Oni Battle Stance (Unlocked at Elite 2)
The Breacher gains up to +50 RES and +35% ATK as Tenacity, scaling with how much of her max HP she has lost. The buff reaches its maximum value when she has lost 70% of her max HP. Meaning the closer she is to death, the harder she hits and the more Arts damage she resists. This talent directly rewards the high-risk playstyle her kit is built around, turning her into a stronger threat the more punishment she takes. With Ātmagrāha extending her uptime even past 0 HP, Oni Battle Stance often sits at near-max stacks during her most active windows.
Hoshiguma the Breacher Skill Priority
Below are the skill upgrade and Mastery priorities for Hoshiguma the Breacher in Arknights:
| Skill | Priority |
| S3 - Hell Itself | ★★★★★ (Highest) |
| S2 - Anadi-Avidya | ★★★★ (Secondary AFK) |
| S1 - Bitter Karma | ★★ (Skip) |
Get all three skills to Level 7 first before investing in any Mastery. Hoshiguma the Breacher's S3 is her defining skill and one of the highest total damage skills in the entire game, on top of providing complete ally damage negation during its deactivation window. S2 is a strong AFK option worth keeping at SL7. S1 is not worth Mastery investment.
S3 - Hell Itself (M3) - Best Choice
Hell Itself transforms the Breacher into a wide-range Arts DPS powerhouse, extending her range to the surrounding 8 tiles with 1×3 cardinal extensions, buffing HP and ATK, and making her attacks hit up to 3 targets twice per swing. The real game-changer is its deactivation phase: for 11 seconds after she manually toggles it off, she becomes unkillable, her attacks shift to 4 hits, and she redirects all fatal damage from allies in her range onto herself before being forcibly retreated. This produces one of the highest total damage outputs in the game while also turning her into a complete safety net for the entire team. Mastery is non-negotiable for anyone using her.
S2 - Anadi-Avidya - Secondary AFK
Anadi-Avidya throws Hannya in a 360° loop, dealing Arts damage, Slowing enemies, and healing the Breacher based on damage dealt. While Hannya is out, her attacks hit multiple targets equal to her block count, three times each at reduced ATK. The Offensive Recovery and self-sustain make it a strong low-maintenance AFK skill that runs itself once charged. Solid at SL7, with Mastery as an optional polish once S3 is done.
S1 - Bitter Karma - Skip
Bitter Karma permanently buffs her ATK and DEF and adds reactive Arts damage when she's attacked. Functional as a budget tanking skill, but completely outclassed by both S2 and S3. No reason to invest Mastery here.
Hoshiguma the Breacher Module
| Module Information | ||
| Module | AST-X: No Trace | |
| Recommended Stage | Stage 3 | |
| Priority | High - pursue after S3M3 | |
The AST-X module adds an additional 10% ATK as Arts damage whenever she attacks an enemy or is attacked, alongside increases to her max HP and ATK at Stage 1. This effect compounds quickly during Hell Itself, where she attacks up to 3 targets multiple times per swing and is constantly being attacked back due to her tanking role. Stage 3 upgrades Oni Battle Stance so that it also buffs her ATK whenever its Tenacity stacks are at maximum, scaling her damage even higher in the low-HP windows where she spends most of her active uptime. A strong module on an already strong operator.
Is Hoshiguma the Breacher Worth Pulling?
Short answer: Yes
Strengths
- Hell Itself produces one of the highest total damage outputs of any skill in the game while also turning her into an ally damage shield
- Damage redirection during Hell Itself's deactivation window lets her absorb fatal hits aimed at allies, especially valuable against AoE-heavy enemies
- Gouka grants a unique second life through the Ātmagrāha state, letting her keep tanking and dealing damage even after her HP technically reaches 0
- Oni Battle Stance scales her ATK and RES the more HP she loses, rewarding the high-risk playstyle her kit is built around
- Innate RES that scales per Elite gives her better Arts matchups than most Defenders
- Arts damage on attacks while skilled gives her a unique offensive profile for a tank
Weaknesses
- No RES Ignore mechanic, so high-RES enemies significantly reduce her damage output
- Lower HP and DEF than the original Hoshiguma, leaning her more toward bruiser than pure tank
- Carnival Limited availability means few chances to obtain her outside her rerun banners
Pull if you:
- Want a tank that also delivers some of the highest total damage in the game
- Play content with heavy AoE damage where ally damage redirection matters
- Need an Arts-damage frontline option for high-DEF enemy compositions
Skip if you:
- Already have a well-built roster covering Arts DPS and tanking roles
- Are saving for a higher-priority limited banner
- Are early-game and short on Elite 2 materials
Conclusion
Hoshiguma the Breacher rewrites what an Arts Protector can do, fusing brutal damage with a self-sacrificing safety net that pulls fatal blows away from the rest of the squad. By following our Hoshiguma the Breacher build guide, we hope you can unleash the L.G.D. chief's full karmic fury on the battlefield.
