Archetypes at a Glance

2XKO CHARACTERS

Understanding archetypes helps you pick complementary duos rather than two champions that fight for the same space:

  • Rushdown (Ahri, Akali, Vi, Warwick): Built to close distance fast and keep opponents on the back foot with mix-ups.

AhriAkaliViWarwick

  • Zoner (Caitlyn, Jinx, Senna in base form): Control screen space with projectiles and traps, forcing the opponent to approach on unfavorable terms.

CaitlynJinxSenna

  • Grappler (Blitzcrank): Wins through strike-throw guessing games; his Rocket Grab punishes passive blocking.

Blintzcrank

  • Bruiser (Braum, Illaoi): Tanky, high-commitment characters that thrive at close range with big hitboxes.

Braumillaoi

  • Mix-Up (Ekko): Specializes in ambiguous left-right and high-low resets rather than raw pressure or zoning.

Ekko

  • Trap (Teemo): Denies space with persistent hazards instead of direct pressure.

Teemo

  • Technical (Thresh): Built around positioning tools like Lantern Tag rather than straightforward damage.

Thresh

  • All-Rounder (Darius, Yasuo): Balanced, fundamentals-focused kits with no glaring weakness.

DariusYasuo

  • Hybrid (Senna): Shifts identity entirely depending on which of her two forms she's using.

Notable Unique Mechanics

A few champions stand out for mechanics that reshape how their entire kit functions:

  • Warwick's Bloodlust: Fills as he lands hits, automatically triggering a berserk state with faster dashes, healing on Special 2 attacks, and access to a double jump.

  • Senna's Wraith Meter: Lets her hold a full gauge indefinitely and manually switch from ranged zoning to an aggressive, air-dashing wraith form.

  • Thresh's Lantern Tag: Once his lantern is deployed, either character on his team can reposition instantly to its location, opening unconventional combo routes.

  • Blitzcrank's Vapour Gauge: Builds through attacks and unlocks extended special-move follow-ups once full.

Building Your First Duo

2XKO DUO FIGHT

New players sometimes combine a zoner and a rushdown champion for both space control and pressure, for example, a team like Warwick and Jinx, or Akali and Caitlyn. For ease of learning, a fundamentals based champion such as Darius and Yasuo works great to start out, before trying a champion that’s more complex like Ekko or Thresh.
